Before any of the companies, Mass Distraction was a poster and wheatpaste art crew I ran with friends in Los Angeles. Street posters, stencils, stickers, and a lot of late nights downtown.
It's where Society6 came from.
A free public record of the world's murals and the people who paint them. Every day it finds each muralist's own website and Instagram, so you can see more of their work and hire them.
I've loved murals for a long time. Years ago I developed a TV series about the artists behind them, and I spent a few months working with Beautify Earth, where I'm also an investor, right before Luna Luna started.
This is where all of that ended up: a way to know where the murals are and to help the people who paint them.

In 1987 André Heller built an art amusement park with rides and pavilions by Haring, Basquiat, Dalí, Lichtenstein and more. Then it sat in shipping containers in Texas for 35 years.
I was COO and executive producer of the revival: the deal to buy it back, being there when the containers were opened, leading the restoration team, and getting the park open so people could walk through it again. I'm a shareholder today.
This map is a small thank-you to that park.
I co-founded Society6, a marketplace where hundreds of thousands of independent artists sold their work on prints and products and kept their rights. We sold the company in 2013.
It proved something I still build on: when artists get paid, a community shows up around them.

Quorum is the system I built to run several companies at once. When a decision matters, it seats AI models from different companies around one table, gives each a role, and lets them argue across rounds without seeing who said what. I get one written answer with the call and the disagreements.
It also runs my mornings, my decisions and my books. Now I set it up for other founders.

Ginger is the AI that works for me. Three times a week she does a short stand-up set about her workday with me, built from what we really did that week. It's very funny and not great for my reputation.
There's also a free slop check: paste your writing and it marks every line that sounds like a robot wrote it.
Coach Ace is our AI tennis coach for juniors and their parents. It tracks USTA points and UTR, finds the next tournament worth playing, logs every lesson and match, and answers by text.
I played junior tennis. I was good in practice and couldn't handle competing, the nerves got to me, and I ended up walking away from it.
Now my son plays, and I'm the parent at the fence trying to figure out which tournament he should play next and how to help without adding pressure. Coach Ace is the thing I wish both of us had.
Youth sports runs on the same thing the art world does, a tribe of people who care a lot and show up every weekend.

I'm from Delaware. Quaker roots, and on the Italian side a family line that goes back to the 1500s.
I studied film at Cornell, wrote one-liners for movie posters, and then spent my career building places people gather: Mass Distraction, Society6, Luna Luna, and now Quorum.
I live in Los Angeles, near the water. When I'm not building, I'm usually out here surfing, or on a paddle tennis court.
I'm writing the longer version of this story now. Until then, every stop on the map is a chapter.
Write to meI studied film at Cornell. My first job was writing the one-liners on movie posters, which is a good way to learn how to say a lot in seven words.
The scripts live in a drawer now. The storytelling ended up in the companies.
MassDistraction was a creative network I built before Society6. It didn't make it. What I learned there became Society6.
I also made a real run at comedy and performance writing on camera. That didn't work either. My AI is doing better at it than I did.
The misses stay on the map next to the wins. That's the point of a map.
